I have a 24 inch Early 2008 iMac. According to this kb article (HT1423) this machine is maxed at 4GB total RAM. Is that really the case? I want to run VMWare Fusion (allows use of windows programs) and it slows things down quite a bit

Have a look here: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac You may be able to go to 6gb. If Macsales (OWC) say it's possible you can be certain that it is.

Agree with Paul31. 6GB almost certanily. My slightly earlier (and 21") Mac will take that.

If you are in Europe, Crucial.com are another useful outlet who will advise you one to one if necessary.
