Jan 10, 2013 11:25 AM in response to audreyruizby dominic23,If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
Best.

Jan 10, 2013 11:44 AM in response to audreyruizby Gianni Carlo,I had problems like this, they had to do with the headphone jack though. After they occurred once they continued on a regular basis 1+/week, could be fixed by playing around with the jack, until they couldn't. Long story short: a broken jack and a confused os. I solved my problems with a USB headphone jack. Even if you're sure it isn't the headphone jack try plugging in any alternate audio output devices you have to see if you can control the volume for them (be sure to select them in the System Preferences/Sound). If it's still no go there's always the PRAM and the SMC, but if you can get a device to work and the problems presist the system somehow isn't retriving control over the volume settings.

It's not a headphone issue and it's not on mute.
