I would like to have the Voice Over in my Mac function in Portuguese. I can change the language of system andVoice Over will read it but it reads with an English pronunciation. The same is true for French and I imagine all the other languages. The effect is very strange. It doesn’t sound like the foreign language because the words have a different pronunciation. Does anyone know if this can be remedied? |

You need to change the Voice used by the system to a Portuguese voice. This is done in system preferences/speech and universal access

My system preferences doesn't seem to have a Portuguese voice.
When I write in Portuguese, the voice reads the words with the English pronunciation.

Please look again in Universal Access > Seeing > Voice Over Utility > Speech > Customize. The Portuguese voice will be downloaded if you check the box.

I have been working with a MacBook Pro OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) which doesn't have the customize option.
At Christmas we got 2 new Macs with OS 10.8.2. Indeed, the very feature you mention is there.
We have yet an older IBook G4 which I would like to give away to a blind Portuguese person, but since it doesn't have that Portuguese voice, it would be useless to him.

Unfortunately Apple only supplied an English voice until OS 10.7. I think it is possible to add other voices to earlier systems, but you have to buy them from Cepstral, Assistiveware, or other sources.
and thank apple for that coz other system doesn't even have any thing to support blind people at all. it seem like only apple that even care!
