When using external HDMI projector in "Extended Display" mode, I see a thick yellow bar along the left side...

When using external HDMI projector in "Extended Display" mode, I see a thick yellow bar along the left side. In addition to the yellow bar, the Underscan centerpoint is offset to the right a few inches, thus when the Underscan is set to the correct size, a large portion of the right side of the screen is cut off. The problem is not the projector, as when I use the projector with SEVERAL other devices, including this same iMac in "Mirroring" mode, everything is normal. The only time this projector seems to fail, using the same cord and everything, is when the iMac's display is set to Extended Display Mode.

Any ideas?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Does the Projector have a separate setting for 16x9 ratio? Does it support 1080p?

The line shows up even if the resolution is set to 720p, which, according to the box, is supported by the projector. The projector itself has no settings other than Document/Movie, which only makes a difference in color/contrast/brightness. If it makes a difference, it is the Brookstone DLP Pocket Projector.

720p basically maxes at 1280 x 720. The problem is that's a ratio that Apple's screens don't normally support. They'll support 1080p, which is 1920 x 1080, 1680 x 1050, or 1280 x 1024. SwitchResX or DisplayConfigX can better approximate the display resolution when Apple's built-in graphics chip doesn't support it.

If that is the case though, why would it work fine on my Macbook Air?. Ill try SwitchResX and DisplayConfigX and see what happens
