Have just purchased an Apple TV 3 and set it up wanting to mirror my Ipad 3. I tried to find the Airplay icon by doubleclicking on the Home button but it wasn't there. I also can't find it when playing video for example.
Both devices have latest S/W and are on the same Wireless Network.
Anyone expierienced this?

Did you turn on Airplay on the ATV 3?

and went through all the steps listed there but no solution.
I just cant see the Airplay icon in either Safari or in recently used apps.
There isn't supposed to be one in Safari. Do you have one in the Video app or the Music app?
Hey deggie - according to this KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4437 under the 'Enabling Airplay from your iPad section' there should be....but there isn't one in either the Video or Music apps either.
I am having the same problem - told it has to do with Ports needing to be recognized - although that doesn't make alot of sense- Interesting that my Ipad, Iphone and Apple TV are all on the network and recognized, but they are not communicating. It worked fine when we installed it, for both music and mirroring, then after we upated the iOs to the latest yesterday, it all stopped working . any thoughts from anyone ?
You have to actually be playing video content from the web via Safari for that feature to show up. I wasn't.
Right. But still no Airplay icon in either Video or Photo App. Really bizzare!
Any next steps to recommend? Apple Support.....
Last night - I went into Apple TV menu and went to Restart -
After the system restarted, wen back through all menus and the "Airplay" menu had Airplay listed as being "off". I turned it on and it restarted.
Seems the system may need a reboot ??
One of the first things I tried. However I know it is working in any case beause I've got the mirroring working on my iPhone. It's just the iPad where I don't have the icons and can't get it working.
If you have tried all the R's might be time to get your iPad looked at.
I was afraid that would end up being the case.....annoying its an iPad 3 so not that old!
My ipad3 works with airplay for You Tube and photos, but mirroring has disappeared from safari and the menu (?) bar. Doesn't seem like a hardware problem to me. I installed the appletv remote app on my ipad recently, don't know if that has got anything to do with it???
I get this same issue every once in a while, but what always works is unplugging my router for 30 seconds, plug it back in and my Aiplay icons are back...Good Luck!
I turned off bluetooth on my laptop after trying to fix this for hours and it works great now.
