Why would alarms not sync to desktop?

MacOS 10.8.2 with iOS 6.0.2 on iPhone + iOS 6.0.1 on iPad

I set an alarm on an event on my iPhone. The alarm does not appear in my Calendar on the desktop. It does get translated by sync to the iPad. Ditto for the other way (iPad -> iPhone).

I have done Calendar Cleaner, deleted the Calendar cache file (to have it rebuilt), and at one point some time ago also reset the sync services. Still no luck. I have no other calendar services (Google or others).

What could be going on here, and how might this be fixed?
