Can I charge my iPhone 5 with Apple 10W USB power adapter got with iPad 3 in place of standard Apple 5W Power adapter for faster charging ?
iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.1
Yes
Yes
Then why has Apple provided 5W USB power adaptor instead of 10W with iPhone 5.Perhaps 10W can charge iPhone faster !
I am curious
Because the 5W adapter adequately charges the iPhone.
The iPad comes with a 10W adapter because that is the only adapter powerful enough to charge it adequately.
Then will it be feasible to charge iPhone 5 with 10W charger ?
I don't want to take any risk.I was just enquiring to reduce the charging time. But now also it's quite good.
There is no harm in charging the iPhone 5 with a 10W adapter.
Advantages over 5W adapter ?
Faster charging.
But why Apple thought 5W charger to adequately charge iPhone ?
It does charge the iPhone, only slower. If it was much less than 5W, it would not be able to charge the iPhone. Basically, 5W is necessary for the iPhone to charge, and 10W is necessary for the iPad to charge, but you can borrow the iPad's charger for your iPhone.
Thanks
hi,
you might want to get a 10W off-grid iPOG from Metalectrique, they've just launched it on kickstarter.
Ted
So, can I use any USB Power Adapter (including 12w) to charge my iPhone?
I mean, the only diference will be a fast charge?

Correct. The iPhone won't take in more current than it can handle.
Yes you can use the 10 W charger. All the iPhones from the iPhone 3GS on can use iPad adapters. However, the charge time is still the same.
What?
But that's changes everything stevejobsfan0123 said about faster charge!
Who are right?
