Trackpad issue and warranty

Hi Everyone,

Just hope for a friendly advise. I've got issue recently with my Macbook Pro's trackpad. It stopped 'clicking'. In apple store they tried to replace it at once, but later told me that trackpad is soldered instead of being mounted with screws. I had to leave it for repairs.

Today someone from apple called me to inform that a coffee been spilled to the trackpad. Therefore i have to pay AUD 118 for replacement.

I *never* spilled a liquid to that laptop. Overall, this case is getting really frustrating.

I've got this laptop as ex-demo from Dick Smith but it was sold as new, covered with warranty. Also, i've been to apple store with trackpad issue previously. They 'adjusted' trackpad but noone told me that liquid been spilled to it.

To summarise, my question is... Is there a king of 'dispute resolution' process with Apple? It gets really wrong with the 'spilled liquid' matters.

Thanks

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

You can always try working your way up the food chain - store manager to Apple Customer Relations.

But there are Liquid contact indicators all over your MBP. If one shows a liquid spill, you're just going to have to shell out the AUD118 to have the trackpad repaired. I would ask, specifically, to see the LCI and have them explain how they 'know' that it was caused by a coffee spill.

If you're not happy with the answer your receive regarding the LCI, take the matter up with the store manager or call Apple Customer Relations (I don't know the Australian phone number, sorry).

Good luck,

Clinton
