Is it possible to upgrade to 10.6.4 with the disks?

I just upgraded to 10.5 and now tried to upgrade to 10.5.8 but the computer sat for 10 hours in the configuring installation stage. I have the 10.6.4 disks from my husband's computer but it's telling me I can't install... I have a new ipad I can't use, and now with the useless upgrade to 10.5 I can't even access the itunes store where there's $75 languishing unused!

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Install disks that come with a Mac are machine specific and are licensed for single use only.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:

OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is once again available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:

Single use, doesn't mean you can't erase and install a newer operating system version and use it on another Mac of the same vintage. Basically you can only have one active copy, and its backup in the same house. A backup being a clone or Time Machine backup to an external hard disk. But you can't use system specific discs on anything other than same vintage, and model Mac. Anything different, and it won't work. 10.6.3 and 10.6.0 were the only "retail" releases of 10.6, allowing installation on any Mac with 10.6.2 or earlier (for 10.6.3, and 10.5.8 and earlier for 10.6.0) installed that has an Intel CPU and 1 GB of RAM. PowerPC G3, G4, and G5 Macs can't use 10.6.

Is it possible to upgrade to 10.6.4 with the disks?
