icalendar events appear on my mac but not on my iphone

I have a macbook OSX 10.6.8 and an iphone 5, one of my icalendar subsets is not syncing to my iphone. I can see all my birthdays I created in icalendar on my mac but they don't appear on my iphone. how do i fix that?
