Adding notes in an eBook

Is there a way to add notes in an eBook by adding a link 'Add notes' that could be clicked and which would prompt out the notes modal window?

I am preparing a self learning eBook where the students are encouraged to add notes/provide answers where the current method is to select a word or expand it manually to a text block + selecting 'Note' from the pop menu.
