Just bought Harmon Kardon soundsticks III cannot get it to work on mac mini

Hi

Just purchased the Harmon Kardon soundsticks very nice looking but does not work with my mac mini. Connected it up as per manual instructions plugged it in line in cable to line in but no sound. Went into system preferences to check to see Input (Line In) Output (Internal Speakers), is there something I am not doing correctly. My other speakers which has decided to retire through old age was picked up perfectly. Can anyone help. Incidentally I am using an audio jack not usb.

Output should not say Internal Speakers. Change that to "Line Out". You can also change the output by option-clicking on the volume icon in your menubar. Make sure "Use audio port for" says "Output" and "Output Device" says "Line Out".

Thanks for replying, I am unable to change to line out I have no options, the only way that I have been able to get t he speakers to work is by plugging into the headphone jack. Is it possible the sound card is broken?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Your new speakers are the same as headphones....Output.....that is the way all my speakers work.....Line In would be for a microphone....Input.....

.....I believe all is well with your setup....

I have 2 different sets of external speakers.....4 different sets of earbuds.....and some headphones.....they all plug into the headphone port......
