iPad memory usage at limit

So basically it seems I have run out of memory space on my iPad. I'm slightly confused as to why. My music takes up 1.9gb, and that's the part which is taking up the most space. It's not very much! It says I've used 12.2 gb and have 1.1gb available. All other parts using memory are taking up like 42mb! So why is my memory practically full? Ive downloaded 3 games and that is all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can look in Settings/General/Usage to get a look at what is using your space. The categories at the top are consuming the most storage.

It is best to check the iPad with iTunes on your computer. When you select he iPad in iTunes there is a bar graph at the bottom that shows what is taking up the storage as well. If you mouse over the sections a balloon will popup showing the space taken. Check the yellow Other section, if it is over 2-3GBs you will need to restore the iPad to free this space up. Restore using a backup, if that doesn't free it up you will have to Restore as new and start over.

How much space is your Other using? You may be able to reduce.

How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

 Cheers, Tom 😉
