Powerbook g4 Why is it that there is a question mark over the Safari , iChat , Adress Book , Preview , and System Preferences not allowing me to open them?
I really need to use the internet , but safari will not open .... PLEASE HELP THANK YOU.

The icons in the Dock are only aliases. The question mark probably means that they have lost contact with the original applications, maybe because you have moved them out of the Appplication Folder where they belong?
I havent touched it i even rebooted the whole computer and the question marks are still there 😟 i wish i could solve the problome. When i go to the finder and search safari i click on the setup but it does not work it says " ERRORR READING PACKAGE - the selected package is a receipt"
Then the alias is not pointing to the application but to the download or install package.
Repair prmissions and reboot. If that doesn't cure it you will have to reinstall.

Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Later versions of OS X.

You reinstall from your original install disks.
i repaired it but it did not do anything for me 😟
Are these application shown in your application folder?
If not, then like Klaus1 has suggested, you would need to use your Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) DVD to reinstall the missing software.
