How do I get rid of password at login?

At some point requiring a password upon login/waking up from sleep mode was necessary. I no longer want my MacBook password protected, but can't seem to find the setting anywhere. I tried doing some research here in the community, but didn't get very far finding an answer that works. When I enter System Settings/Users & Groups/Login Options, I am unable to change to Automatic Login (with the gold lock unlocked). Is that even the way to go to change from a password protected login? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yes this is the way.

Are you saying it reads automatic login> OFF and you can not change it to your name (admin)??

Please confirm you are using OS X 10.6.8 as your profile indicates. The places to set password protection have changed slightly over time with different releases of OS X.

In 10.7 sleep & screen saver password setting is in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. Not sure if it's called the same thing in 10.6.8. There is also a disable automatic login setting there. For overall password enforcement, see System Preferences > Login Options > Automatic Login
