Sounds like the shortcut to iTunes went missing.

    Start > All Programs
    do you see iTunes there?

Or from Windows Explorer, browse to C:\Program Files\iTunes
    Double-click on iTunes.exe

Ya, i tried that, but the whole program has dissapeared. We have searched for it everywhere, and i was just wondering if i downloaded the program again (i still have the disk) would it erase all my songs...or when i plug it in would it register my iPod and all the songs would come on?

I have never had my songs erased when re-installing iTunes.

The program goes into C:|Program FIles\iTunes

The actual music files are in a totally different folder.

But you know....it is always best to have backups, esp of puchased music.

so....When I put my original CD or download iTunes off the internet again...does that mean that all my songs will pop up onto it? Or will I have to go somewhere to find them?

Ok...let's just say that I just downloaded iTunes again...what do I do next...or do i have to do anything except plug in my iPod? Thank you so much!!

    hi Callchel!

    (sorry for barging in Katrina.)

Ya, i tried that, but the whole program has dissapeared.

just checking on something. did everything disappear immediately after an itunes 5.0.x install, or a 6.0.x install?

did you see a dialog saying the installation had been interrupted? or did everything just vanish at the "publishing product information" stage of the install?

    love, b

no, i wasn't asking you to install it again.

i was asking if your itunes program disappeared after you tried to install a version of itunes.

yeah callchel, b noitr is trying to figure out if some malware got rid of your iTunes. At least I think that is what that questions is for.

Do a search on your hard drive for this file
    iTunes library.itl

That is the index that tells iTunes where are the actual songs files are at on your hard drive.

If it already is on your hard drive, re-installing iTunes will use that and you should see all your songs.

If it is NOT on your hard drive, you will have to drag your songs into iTunes again when you get it installed.

    thanks Katrina!

At least I think that is what that questions is for.

... actually, i was thinking of this thing:

iTunes for Windows installation quits with 1607 error, while publishing product information, or is interrupted

(especially the completely silent version of it.)

... i haven't seen one reported for a while, but it was the only thing i could think of that could make the itunes program disappear into thin air ... sometimes it even takes out the desktop icon ...

hey, when you siad i wasn't trying to make you install it again, i haven't even tried to install it once!!

Oh, and also when you said, 'sometimes it even takes off the desktop icon', that's what it did!

One day i simply went on to add some songs and it wasn't on my desktop. So i looked in the program list, and it wasn't there either. Now, if you don't already think I'm stupid for asking these quetions, you REALLY think I'm stupid now...how do i search in the hard drive? sorry, it's not even that i'm not very good with computers, it's just I can't find where that is.
    Thanks again,
    Chelsey

... is it possible that some scoundrel with access to your PC uninstalled itunes from it? could you check with the other folks who have access to your PC?
