Can you not enable like on the iPhone?

Through Settings>General>Usage? That's surprising.

iPod Touch user guide for iOS 6 says it can be displayed.

Please view the iPod Touch User Guide for iOS 6:

Hey Kingshroob, "What?" Popularity has nothing to do with it. The metering system on an iPod is known to be inaccurate, percentage will fluctuate depending on use and apps. If you use a heavy power demand app like HD gaming online your percentage will drop rapidly, switch to listening to music or go into standby it will show an increase in battery life or percentage. What the meter system shows on the iPod is remaining battery life based on current use. The battery icon hides the fluctuations and it uses less power then a percentage display. There is a way to add the percentage without jailbreaking, but it really is pointless. Think of the battery icon as a fuel gauge on a car, it does not show when your going to run out of gas or how far you will go, only that you have "X" amount of fuel left in the tank. Hope this helps. Cheers.

(One more thing, the question you're responding to is a year and a half old and was answered with other posts, you need to check the dates.)
