I recently bought a Mac Pro (2009) off Gumtree, and the specks weren't that good, So I wondering if dual ATI Radeon HD 5870 will be compatible with my Mac Pro and will 1333MHz 32gb ram (8x4gb) will be combatible too. Im trying to make my Mac Pro into a powerful machine so any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

It is limited to one ATI Radeon HD 5870 since one card needs both auxiliary power connectors. One card will handle three display. A second card won't make it any faster.
If you need more than three displays, you can install two ATI Radeon HD 5770 cards. They only need one power connector each.

Thank you, I think I might be getting the two 5770's but I have one more question left. I'm also trying to upgrade the ram, what ram would you recommend, I'm looking for 32gb, but there is various speeds to choose from, and I'm not sure which speed is compatible with my mac.
How many displays do you have? It's best to put them all on one card.
Get memory from companies that know about Macs.

Be sure to get the Apple version of the graphics card.
I currently have 2 displays running, but soon I will be getting 3 displays, I've also heard that putting all your displays on one card may strain the graphics card.

If you want CUDA horsepower and willing to go to the trouble you can use external or optical bay 450W PSU designed for more 8/6-pin cable power.
5770 and 5870 only have 1GB VRAM which a few apps "strain" maybe but it is designed for up to 3 displays done with right cable adapters.
Running three displays on one card is very doable, but requires just the right choice of adapters, otherwise the third one will not light up properly when the other two are present.

You never specified how/for what you intend to use your Mac for, but you may wish to look at this website. They have a pretty good section about configuring Macs.
