Did everything suggested at the link you provided. Nothing worked. Still the icon appears in iTunes but when I clik on the icon, it disappears and will only reappear when I disconnect and reconnect the iPod. So I have no way to put my music on ny iPod.
- Did it connect/sync before?
- Have you tried another cable? Another USB port?
- Rebooted the computer
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Did it connect/sync before?

Tried everything, the icon appears, I click on the icon, it disappears.
Uninstalled iTunes. Reinstalled iTunes. Connected iPod. Icon appeared. Clicked on icon. Icon disapppeared. i.e. didn't work....
Just experienced the same problem. Is it the new version of itunes?
@cmsuto - The problem is not related to the new version according to my experience.
Starting today, my iPod also keeps auto-ejecting after a few seconds of synchronizing on my 2012 MBP (ML 10.8.2) on which I still run iTunes 10.7. Tried connecting it to my old MBP (SL 10.8.6) with the same result; then upgraded to iTunes 11.1 – and yet again the iPod wouldn't remain mounted and keeps ejecting itself (even though the device is still listed in the System Profiler under the USB category).
It neither makes a difference whether I connect the iPod via the USB-hub or directly to the laptop.
Unless there should be a problem with the 30-pin to USB cable I'm out of ideas.
Brief follow-up, managed to stop the auto-ejecting by toggling the "automatic synching" option under devices in iTunes preferences during the few seconds the iPod was mounted after connecting. iTunes then froze up but I guess somehow the problem was resolved, next time when connecting the iPod and again disabling said option in the iTunes preferences, it no longer ejects by itself (for now).
I have this problem as well and have done everything short of uninstalling and reinstalling itunes. Since that didn't work for you, I think I'll wait until someone suggests another solution.
