How To Set Up Messages on OS X v 10.7.5

I have a MacBook Air with OS X v 10.7.5. Currently, the Messages application is not installed or at least I could not find it. If it is not installed, where do I get the application? How do I install and configure it to work? I bought the MacBook Air about 1.5 years ago.

Kind regards,

Randy

Messages is only supported on OS X Mountain Lion, so you have to upgrade to Mountain Lion in order to get Messages on the computer.

Make a backup of your data, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. The installer will be downloaded, and when the download finishes, the installer will show, so follow the steps to upgrade. After upgrading, you will see that iChat has been replaced by Messages on the Dock

I have an old MacPro (1,1) and an old Mac Mini - the max they will run is 10.7.5. I simply can't afford 'new' hardware. Since the Messages beta expired, I simply can't Message from my Macs - only my phone.

It's a real shame, I feel abandoned by Apple. Hopefully, some day, I will be able to buy a 3,1 Mac Pro, but not this year, for sure!

If anyone has a suggestion for a way to run Messages on my old HW, or a non-Apple app that will work, please let us poor folk know!!!
