Keynote background opacity does not change

Hi all,

I want to make a transparent background on on Keynote'09 5.1.1 (1034). The background colour opacity does not change for some unknown reason.

This is the way I do it: open keynote - select a white or black theme - open the inspector - go to slide inspector - go to appearance - set background as colour fill - double click on the slide icon on the bottom of the inspector to open the colour inspector - set opacity to 0% - close the colour inspector - open it again and the opacity is 100% again.

Please help!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5), Keynote'09 511 (1034)

There is no feature in Keynote to allow a transparent background.

Why do you want to do this, what are you trying to do?

Yes, there is.

My problem is that I can't change the opacity level in the colours inspector (follow the steps explained in my first post).

I cant see how this would help but here is what i am trying to do. I am trying to export a video with a transparent background. I have done that countless number of times yet today I am experiencing difficulties with changing the background opacity.

I hope this helps.

Nope there isn't. If you can find a way let us know.

Changing opacity works OK for me. Opacity doesn't create transparent backgrounds, it creates transparency in slide objects.

Well if you won't't explain what your trying to achieve we cant help.

Vifeo changes things entirely, but can be done easily, not by using Keynote but using QuickTime export using the Animation CODEC with millions + colour option.

ilyasmussin is right. There is a way to change the opacity level of a background image in Keynote.

In the Inspector, on the Slide Inspector tab, under Appearance, set the background option to "Tinted Image Fill" then click on the black and white box to the right of "Choose...". This will bring up "Colors" and at the bottom is the Opacity slide bar.

This discussion is not about changing the opacity of an image, it is about how to create

a transparent background, refer to the the original post quoted below.

I am trying to export a video with a transparent background. in Keynote.

I explained in my last post that the background layer can not be made transparent in Keynote as there is no alpha channel in Keynote. The background layer will always be filled with either an image or a colour matte.

What you describe, is changing the opacity of an object, which the original poster knows how to do.

This Keynote canvass should explain the difference between opacity and transparency, the same image is placed on an orange object with different properties applied:

1 - 0 % transparency and 100% opacity

2 - 100 % transparent background using an alpha chanel created in Photoshop,

and 100 % opacity

3 - 0 % transparency and 50% opacity

4 - 100 % transparent background and 50% opacity
