Q: Can't insert disk!

I'm trying to insert a disk and it's like I hit a block wall. I can can only insert it many 2". Thought maybe another disk was in the slot but nothing's showing on the screen and the eject button isn't ejecting anything. It's an iBook G4 running 10.5.8. Thanks.

If the disk drive has jammed hold down the mouse button while powering up the iBook.

If that doesn't eject anything maybe the drive is dead and an external (or replacement) is the only way to go.

    Hello,

    Try resetting the PMU.

Please check if the drive is recognized by the iBook (it may be dead)

To open System Profiler, choose Apple Menu > About This Mac, and then click More Info.

OK...the System Profiler shows the disk drive is there. I connected an external harddrive to the computer, inserted a disk, and that doesn't show up either.

Would it have something to do with the fact that I canged administrators to the computer? The computer belongs to our church and I am in the process of moving it from one office to another. I added an administrator to the accounts, signed out the old administrator, and then deleted the old one.

No it will have nothing to do with the administrators.

Have you tried holding down the mouse button as suggested in my previous post?

The fact that an external doesn't work suggests an OS problem. You might have to reinstall and restore (but that's a last restort).

My problem is solved but no by any of the suggestions found here. I googled my problem and that took me to ,I think, Mac Fix It. I didn't have a disk in there after all. It was sluggish drive. They suggested I put a credit card in the slot to get the springs loosened up. I did that several times and was able to insert the disk. My guess is that the drive wasn't used very much, which in turn, caused the problem.

I still don't have an answer about the external drive not showing up but it's not needed now. So I'm good to go. Thanks to everyone for your help.
