I downloaded audio books to my mac and now I want to transfer them to my IPad 3 I went to Library, add files but that did not work.

You'll want to sync them over under the books tab (with the device selected) in itunes at the bottom you'll see you can check sync audiobooks there.
I tried to add the audio files to the ITunes book library. They appeared to upload to that library and then disappeared. So as of now their is nothing to sync. I even tried creating an audio book section under the book library and again tried to add the audio book files there but nothing was added. I really don't get it.
I find Itunes to be a bit less than user friendly when it comes to audio books. I have no problem with regular epub book files. Has anyone written a really comprehensive manual that includes dealing with files NOT purchased from an Apple store?
