What exactly do you wish to do with it? What exactly are you doing or planning to do with your Dell? If you just want to surf the web, check mail, keep some pictures and video, write some documents, and such 'normal' stuff, then the Mac is a good bet. On the other hand if you have some specific programs that you need to run for work which work under Windows which you cannot do without, then maybe the Mac is not such a good idea especially f you are not so technically inclined. But it all depends up what YOU want to do.

If you need something for professional photo/video editing or music production then they're worth checking out, if you're more bothered about gaming or work (Word docs, spreadsheets, etc) then go for a decent PC.

I bought my first Mac in Sept 2012 (Macbook Pro 15", 8GB RAM, etc - £2100 with the warranty) and it lasted less than a month... I'm on my second one (got swapped by the store) and am sick of it freezing/crashing. It's not as good as a standard PC for gaming either (my wife and I have a 1yr old HP Beats Audio and a 6 month old Sony Vaio, along with 2x Dell work laptops) - the £700 HP is equal to, or better than the Macbook in most things except music production (which is what I bought the Mac for) - but the Mac crashes more than the Sony, so it's not the hassle-free experience I'd been promised.

Apple remote support is awful, and their in-store staff are almost as poor at fault diagnosis and rectification; I've enlisted friends who program for Symantec to help me fix some of the problems.

Unless you HAVE to get a Mac, based upon my experience, don't bother - save £££'s and get an HP Beats Audio, or equivalent (can't recommend the Sony - we've had some problems with that one).
