Macintosh Classic II refuses to boot

Hello you.

I recently bought a Mac Classic II and it is now refusing to boot. I questioned my son on the matter (I let him play with it) and he said he deleted the 'Extensions Off' folder.

If you can help me, please post here or message me. It is urgent!

Thanks,

Daniel

I'm not sure what "Extensions Off" means but you can tell the Mac to ignore the Extensions folder when the computer boots by holding the Shift key down as the system starts.

Note that Extensions add a lot of functionality to the system so it will be impractical to use the system in this "minimalist" mode for long.

But starting up with Extensions off will give you access to the hard drive and a few other things.

The Disk Tools disk worked, it booted up the Mac. However, whenever I remove the disk, it gives me an error. Also, I can't boot the mac without the disk tools disk. What can I do?

You will need to "install" the Macintosh System onto the computer. Before you do this you might want to attempt to save any files you have on the computer, you can do this by simply copying the files onto your Disk Tools diskette.

How to install System 7:

  1. Burn Install 1, Install 2, Fonts, Printing and Tidbits to diskette.
  2. Boot with Install 1 in the drive.
  3. Go to Install 1 on the desktop and run the installer.
  4. Follow the installation wizard.

When I've burnt all the disks, how will I be able to boot from Install 1? The Mac seems to only be able to boot from the Disk Tools floppy?

I inserted the Install 1 disk, and I got the 'Happy Mac' for about a second, then the disk was ejected 😟. What do I do?

It was a diskette problem! I loaded this new diskette in and I got this error message

"A disk error has occured and installation cannot continue. Your disk may be damaged. Sorry."

What do I do now?
