"Connect As" Not Working in Finder

Hello Everyone! Please help!

I recently purchased a used but awesome Macbook Pro that was running 10.6.8 - everything worked fantastic, including connecting to my iMac (latest model) through Finder. Due to my need for xCode, I updated to Mountain Lion (which is also running on my iMac), and everything works great, except i no longer can access my iMac through finder on the Macbook Pro. I CAN access the MBP through my iMac. but just not the other way around.

The thing i find really peculiar is that I can see my iMac in finder, and it says connecting, but if i click "Connect As" it depresses but does absolutely nothing. I cannot connect via AFP either. Firewall is off, sharing enabled and all that. User permissions setup too.

Is it a problem with the Mountain Lion install? How do i go about fixing this? It left me udderly embaressed yesterday at a clients (when i found out it didnt work anymore)

im proud to report that a "wiped clean" install of Mountain Lion has solved my issue. I did a clean install via the recovery partition of my internal hard drive, as i couldnt get Lion Disk Maker to even load.

This tells me that something 3rd party on my Macbook was the problem, and through research i will find the culprit.

I did consult Apple Care on the issue, and after going through everything twice, they advised a clean install as well.

File Sharing is One Way. I do not have to have Sharing turn on to be able to connect to another computer that does have sharing turned on.

Turning on sharing lets another computer connect to that computer. Not allow that computer to connect to another.

OK a Joke.

Have you contacted the System Admin?

That always get me.

well i got a good deal while out today, sandisk cruzer 16gb flash drives, buy one for $9, get another for a dollar. so im just going to tranfer my xcode files onto them until i buy a ext hdd to wipe this puppy from new egg... i do have apple care on my imac, i wonder if they support me with this?

hey one quickie if your around.. can i use time machine to back up to a cloud site like dolly drive instead of using an external hd? my backup is only 60gb. im a programmer for gods sake and i havent used time machine - ever!

No Time Machine needs a drive local and it must be formatted Mac Extended (Journaled). Now you could use a Time Capsule, Apple product and expensive, and I'm not sure how that actually works. The TCs are also routers with WiFi access point.

im wondering if since its such a small backup, that i dont partition my mbp harddive, time machine backup the 60gbs, reinstall after wiping osx..ahhh but that wouldnt be a legit wipe and clean now would it?

i have my toshiba 320 gb external hdd that i believed wasnt working, working. it had an old time machine backup from another imac i had and dont care abiut, i successfully erased it in Disk utility, made Mac OSX journaled, time machine is backing up as we speak!

any words of wisdom to do a clean wipe and install?

for anyone that sees this, through my research of my issue, i did find another person that had the same issue, unfirtunately they were running a custom built PC running OSX, and they fixed the issue by doing a reinstall of some cracked update they use. So im hoping Shootist007 idea of a wipe is right on!

I am glad this ultimately solved the issue for you, however, rebuilding the entire system to fix this seems extreme, even for windows, much less mac. Although this may fix the issue, its really not a viable solution in most use cases..

Do you have Windows sharing turned on?

Well it's not like they aren't seeing each other it's just the Connect As function isn't working.

or maybe thats because file sharing is disabled in safe mode?
