Will Dropbox let you avoid iTunes
If you install Dropbox, can you avoid using iTunes for video files?
Will video files get stored on your iPad?
Will video player apps be able to find the videos to play them?

You will be able to view a video in drop box if the format is supported. Drop box would not be a real good choice for storage as there are limits on file transfer size, unless you upgrade.
It is doable, but clunkier than I tunes.
