Computer can't open the device.

I followed the steps on Option 2 in order to format my external hard drive (a WD My Book Essential 1TB).


Terminal tried to unmount it but "couldn't open the device" (error -69877).


Not sure what to try now. Help would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I was able to solve this by going into recovery mode and repairing the drive's partition.
