Final Cut Pro 6 Capture Problems

I'm on a 15" 2.4 GHz Intel MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.8, 2 Gigs 1067 DDR3, using Final Cut Pro 6. My camera is a Canon XH A1s, connected to the computer via a Firewire 800 to 400 cable. I'm trying to import a tape from my camera, and go throught the typical process of Log and Capture. However, upon opening Log and Capture, I get the following message: "Unable to initialize video deck. You may still log offline clips or use Capture Now." This has NEVER, I repeat, NEVER happened to me before and I am completely lost. My default sequence preset is DV NTSC 48kHz, capture preset is DV NTSC 48kHz, and device control preset is DVCPRO HD FireWire. I am trying to import HD video from my camera. I already tried trashing the user preferences but no luck. Any ideas?

If you select (or create) an Easy Setup – say, HDV 1080p30 FW Basic – then create a new project, your capture device will be set to FW Basic. If you change it to say, 1080i60, the next project's capture device setting will be FireWire.

You can double–check this in the menu Final Cut Pro>Audio/Video Settings.

To double-check that the sequence settings are correct, hit command 0.
