home folder sync - deleted file reappears

I have an issue with home folder snyc:

Setup went smoothly. I now have a Mac and a MacBookAir with the same home folder - perfect.

However, when I delete any file on one of the machines, it re-appears after home folder sync. The only way to delete a file, is to delete it from the Mac and the home directory of the server as well. This doesn't make much sense to me. Anyone has an idea of what went wrong in setup?
