Q: I have just downloaded Mountain Lion. Two of my most useful programs do not work with Mountain Lion. How do I uninstall and return to Snow Leopard. (I was installing ML in hope of solving a minor problem and created a major problem.)

You use your SL install disks and your pre-ML backup.  There is no "uninstall only the new ML parts" path.

What type of backup? TM or clone?

But at step 7 in the first section, I would do this instead:

Select Partion at the top, change layout to 1 partion, click options and make sure guid partion table is selected, name = Machintosh HD, format = Mac OS extended journaled.  Then click apply.  That will get rid of the recovery HD that mt lion made.

Then continue the steps.
