factory reset

I did a factory reset from itunes and now i'm getting the do not discoonect icon on the ipod. Itunes recognizes that there is an ipod there but then it states that the ipod i have have had a factory reset done and now it doesn't anything. How long does it take for the factory reset to work so i can add songs to the ipod?
