The account can still be logged into during the restricted hours.

Hi BD,

Sorry for this late reply. Thank you for answering.

I probably did not explain myself very well in my post above.

First, the Time Limits boxes - I did intend to leave unchecked.

Second, the Bedtime access restrictions does seem like I am allowing my child to access the computer during NORMAL sleep hours. However, I set the Bedtime (prevent access times) hours to 9:00 AM - 11:00 PM during a school Christmas break so that I would be the one to extend the hours as I was requested. (My child was grounded from computer access during these times) Beyond 11:00 PM they should be asleep.

So, when I saw that the Bedtime 9 AM-11 PM hours still allowed access, I tried other hours and nothing "prevented" access to the computer. Even moving the upper "time limits" sliders to the far left, still gave 1/2 hour of computer access.

Is there a bug in Apple's Parental Controls software?

Hi Bob,

It appears that your account "hes" is the only user account on your computer...... I will also assume that this account has administrative access to your computer!

  1. I would try creating another user account, possibly bob/admin etc..... with your own password..... and give it admin privleges.
  2. Login with your new admin account and make the "hes" account a managed account.... and try setting the time restrictions again
  3. Logout from your newly created admin account and try logging in as "hes" during your restricted hours!

It's one of 2 things-

Either OSX won't allow the login time restrictions if there is only 1 user account on your computer

(what if you accidently set the restricted time so you'd never be able to login to your computer again!)

Or OSX won't follow any type of parental control on an account with admin privledges (it is and Admin account of course!)

Hope this helps!

Thanks BD - for your research. Somehow, I cannot go and purchase a third party product to do what Apple says it can do within the Parental Controls of the Snow Leopard OS. The Time Limits has worked at one time; even now, they partly work. For instance, my above example: 5PM - 6AM - I still have in place. On the 24th it did not work at 5:30 PM; but this morning (now about 12:19 AM) it works, that is, it prevents me from logging in until I enter an Admin password. The other features of P.Controls work, eg, logs, and web site restrictions.

Hi flinched,

Thanks for getting into this Time Limits dilemma. What you suggest to do is exactly how I now have it set up. In the image of the account in my first post you can see "Guest Account", and "hes account." the hes account that I am having problems with is a "managed" account; also, the Guest account is "managed." There are also two Admin acccounts on this same computer (one for me and one for my wife).
