how can I transfer files to my iPad from my mac when tethered

I've benn a mac user for many years. My job provides iPhones and I'm trying to use my wifes old iPad to carry work files and email. My ipad won't sync like the phone and mac are.

Can I transfer files manually when tethered?

My second question is the Exchange account I use dosen't work on the iPad. I have set it up with all same settings I use on th mac and the phone, but with

ne luck. I get a message stating my password is incorect.

Any help would be great.

My mac is 17" MacBook Pro 2.4g running 10.7.5

The phone is a iPhone 4 (?) running os 6.0.1

The ipad is iPad running 5.1.1
