Has anyone ever gotten notes to sync over an IMAP account with 10.8.x??????????

I have been trying to get IOS to sync notes between my mac and my iPod running iOS 6. Doesn't do anything...

I have the accounts created and enabled for both mail and notes. I tried deleting all mail accounts on both devices and recreating. I tried deleting all the accounts on the iPod and forcing an overwrite of mail account data using iTunes. Nothing works.

what is really f---ing frustrating about this is that the IMAP server is Mac OS Mountain Lion Server. With apple at all points in the sequence, it would seem that it should work.

I already read lots of the posts: they all say switch to iCloud (which I can't do!) and some of the iCloud users say it doesn't work.
