The volume control button is a physical button near the mute button. How could it disappear?
Do you mean the slider part of the on screen slider icon? Ours came back on later. We tried restarting it when the problem first happened but that didn't help. So we turned it off for awhile and when we turned it back on again it was working. I would love to know why.
Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.
All,
I found a work around to restore the muted volume. I installed the "Volume tap light" app. It is free on the App Store. Once installed it returned my volume, and all the volume sliders. I have it installed for about five days now, have rebooted my ipad several times and haven't had any further problem. I uninstalled the app at one stage, but the problem with the volume muting returned, so I advise keeping it installed. Hopefully apple will fix this issue in the meantime.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Mike
Oh well...I had to do a complete reset back to factory settings to get my volume back. 😢
Mike00000001, your right on the Money mate, I lost all sound, tried resetting the entire ipad, without any luck, still had no sound in Facebook, Music, or any app. the only way I could listen to sound was ith ear phones, I loaded a app called Korus, bingo have sound again. this must be a bug with these newer Ipads, hope Apple fixes thisproblem quickly, as I have been reading a ton of posts complaining about the same problem. Cheers
For the advice Mike.🙂
After moving to ios7 my iPad seems more sensitive to thinking it is " docked" even though we don't have a dock. When it thinks it is docked all sound and sound controls go to the non existent dock.
Cause...dirty port...not an issue with ios6 but something in ios7 makes your port more sensitive to thinking dust is a docking station.
After searching "iPad thinks it's docked" I found a fix.
This solution worked instantly for me ... Turn off the iPad then gently clean with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip with the end thinned out to fit in the port.
Now we have sound!
There were a couple of solutions in here that involved cleaning the dock connector port.
maybe one will work for you.

Thank you!, thank you! Downloading this App helped me, too!! I have a very happy 7 year old girl right now...PHEW, no trip to the Apple store. 🙂
PS: I also used the app Korus
