I just gave my son an ipod touch. To start him off with itune cards we used my id. If I go in and download music I eat into his credit so now it's time to separate. We use same PC. Comments will be welcome. Thank you.

You'd need to set up different user accounts on the computer to manage this properly.
However you won't be able to do anything about the credit already on your account, credits and previous purchases cannot be transferred.
Your family can still use all the purchased items from the old combined apple I'd on their now new personal apple ID. All you have to do is (on your device) when ever it asks you for an apple I'd just type in the old apple ID instead of the new one. The downfall to this is when updates are needed you need to remember two passwords and those two different apple ID's
