You could try RationaPlan as an alternative (http://www.rationalplan.com), it will open MS Projects and also allow you to same projects so MS Project users can read it

Microsoft Project is unfortunately not available on Macbook. But there are apps which help in project planning and also have Gantt Charts. I have used Project Planning Pro which is similar to Microsoft Project in most ways when it comes to features and cheaper than most other products in this category. P.S you can also use Microsoft Project files (.mpp) in this app. Link Below.

MS once had a Mac version of Project--I had it on a PowerMac 7600/132 at work in the mid-late 1990s--but they dropped further development and support back when Mac OS8 was the latest and greatest.
