Is there a limit on how many emails that can be sent in a day?

    Hello:

I never heard of any ISP limiting the number of E-mails.

If there is a limit it would be imposed by your mail server provider (your ISP, gmail, yahoo, hotmail, other?).  Mac OS X does not care.

For practically all intents and purposes the answer here is "No."

Usually not in the US; but that might be different in other countries.

And, some web based email providers do impose limits. I have one that imposes hourly/daily limits or number of emails as well as bandwidth usage. Unfortunately, I use that for my Apple ID, so I had to stop all email notifications because they would withhold delivery for 2 hours or longer if there were too many.

I guess I need to be more clear... I'm trying to send out a newsletter to about 2500 subscribers and in the past (two years ago) "Apple" restricted the number of email newsletters or apple stationary I could send in a 24 hour period. I was wondering if there is still a limit, what is the limit and/or has that changed.

Well, 2500 recipients could be construed as a mass mailing of spam.

If you are referring to icloud (me.com, mac.com) which is Apple's servers, I don't have an answer because I rarely use it. If you are talking about using the Mail app using your ISP, then the ISP usually does have some sort of maximum to discourage spam. In that case, you will need to check with your ISP - or, if you use Yahoo for instance, check with them to see if they have a maximum.

Yes there are and you are exceeding them at 2500 recipients, see below.

    Limits on Sending Messages

iCloud has several safeguards to ensure that only iCloud members can send messages using the iCloud outgoing mail server. Among these safeguards are reasonable limitations on:

    • The total number of messages you can send each day (200 messages)
    • The number of recipients to whom you can send each day (1000 recipients)
    • The maximum number of recipients per message (100 recipients)
    • The size of incoming and outgoing messages (20 MB)

iCloud email has been designed primarily for personal use. Sending unsolicited bulk email messages through iCloud email servers is prohibited. To review the iCloud membership agreement and acceptable use policy, please see theiCloud Terms and Conditions.

Thank you so much for the information. I can see that Apple has not changed their policies.

    Many Thanks
