My macbook no longer goes into closed clamshell (display closed) mode with an external display after I updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 - When I close the lid it flashes briefly then goes to sleep. Help!

After updating my macbook to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 my external LG display (VGA connector) no longer works in clam shell mode. Now i can only view with it open and my aspect ratio does not match my display in mirror mode. Please help!

So your keyboard or mouse won't wake the Mac when you close the lid correct? Try resetting the SMC and pram

Shut down the computer.

Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.

Remove the battery.

Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.

Release the power button.

Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.

Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Resetting NVRAM / PRAM

Shut down your Mac.

Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

Turn on the computer.

Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.

Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

Release the keys.

I never had this particular problem but doing some reading it seems to be related to 10.6.8. Some people have dropped back to 10.6.7 and no longer have the problem. Is there a particular reason you upgraded? Is it possible you could reinstall Snow Leopard and then instead of going all the way to 10.6.8 just use the combo updater for 10.6.7?

It won't allow me to download an earlier version. I had to upgrade to Snow Leaopard because I purchased an Ipad mini and I couldn't connect to Itunes without the upgrade.

What a mess! There is probably 2 years worth of this complaint on this form and Apple doesn't seem to have a fix. thanks for trying.

I guess i just have to deal with a slightly blurry display. Argh!
