how does the quicktime player support rmvb vedio format

when open a rmvb vedio file,the quicktime player can not open it ,how can i open it ,is there some codec that support the player?

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

You can use VLC!

Use VLC media player. You can probably find a plugin for Quicktime, but they have been known to cause problems.
