Syncing

I am trying to put music on my ipod i open i tunes drag all my music to a new playlist and then go to file and click sync with ..........ipod, the ipod then comes up saying syncing a few seconds later stops and says updating library I then go into my music but no new songs have been added and it is starting to wind me up so thought I would ask for some help, Any ideas people ?x
