Need help converting avi or wmv file to motion-jpeg. Was told that quicktime 7 pro could do that.

You were given some false information:

QuickTime Player Pro for Windows can't even open Windows Media Player formats (.wmv and others).

If your AVI file can open and play it can be converted.

I can open avi and play it but when I export the file I don't see a motion jpeg file extension to convert too.

You would export Movie to QuickTime Movie and then click the Options button to choose the video codec and settings.
