Q: Apple TV (1st Gen) - Cannot Stream Music to Airport Express (2nd Gen)

Is it possible to stream music from Apple TV (1st Gen) to a 2nd Gen Airport Express?

 

I believe Apple TV (1st Gen) supports AirTunes only (not AirPlay). I cannot seem to set up any Airport Express (2nd Gen) on my network as a AirTunes Speaker.

 

All I am trying to do is have my Apple TV (1st Gen) send music to an Airport Express (2nd Gen) in another part of the house which is connected to a stereo.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

    Make sure the airport express connect to the same router as the atv and dont have it own wifi network

    My atv1g and airport express just worked out of the box but then they are on thr same network otherwise it would not

    My ATV1g and Airport Express (AE) are in two separate rooms. The AE is connected to the same network (though I can't recall the exact setup as I know there are a number of them).

    Are you suggesting I use the second last set up? I have not investigated this. I have also heard that it may work to reduce the encryption key from 128bit to 40 bit (can't recall what I have it set to now, but will verify and revert once I know).

     

    Also can you verify two things for me? Is your AE a 2nd gen (i.e. the one that sits flat that needs a power cord)? When you set yours up, did you see it list the AE inside Setup -> General -> Speakers? I cannot see my AE listed under speakers so I presumed I could not stream music to it from the ATV1g.
