Q: my daughter just purchased a movie from iTunes. She is trying to sync it to an iPod Touch running os 4.2.1, and is getting the message that it can't sync because it can't be played on this iPod Touch. What can we do?????

iTunes: Sync purchased HD videos to iPod or iOS device
Basically you have to sync the SD version to a 1G, 2G or 3G iPod. Only the 4G and later ones support HD. You may have to download the SD version
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
