Not fond of Mountain Lion since startup and shutdown time have increased. Just my luck, mid terms are this week and I tried turning my computer on today and it just goes to a blank white screen. Not much to say but disappointment. Any help would be nice. Thanks.

Yes, try to restart in normal mode, if/when it fails a reinstall of OSX will be needed.
You're a life saver. I really hope it doesn't do this again. Any reason why it did this? Would you know?

Most likely you have installed a piece of 3rd party software that is the cause, (in Safe Mode 3rd party software is disabled). If it continues it will be necessary to find and fix it.
It did indeed. Thank you very much. I'm still not sure why startup/shutdown times have increased. Should I do a clean install of Mountain Lion? Would you know if that'll help anything?

I wouldn't yet, I also wouldn't switch it off at all, close the lid, it'll come back on much faster that way.
Okay I'll try that. I'm also getting many pinwheels going from task to task. Any advice on that one?

Midterms begin tomorrow and end Friday.
Use it as-is, exit everything that you do not need for now, deal with fixing it after the exams.
