Where do my photos go?
So in using my iPad mini in the Facebook app, I save a picture, where does it go? Doesn't show up in my photos on the iPad or in Facebook in photos under my profile?

That did it - thank you! On my iPad, I had to change “never” to “read and write” (?), then the photos appeared in my photos, where they had always been appearing before the iOS 11 update.

Yeah that is all turned on, however there is not an area when you get into the Facebook portion to say, save photos - just an on switch to allow Facebook access to the contents of the iPad. So that doesn't seem to be the answer.
Assuming everything is correctly set, saved photos from either the Web or Apps, will always go to the Camera Roill album in the Photos App.
If they aren't there, then something is not correctly set.
Settings->Privacy->Photos->Facebook : Set to On.
Not a Facebook user, but from what I have read about it, I was under the impression that the photos should appear in the camera roll in the Photos app.
Check Settings>General>Restrictions>Privacy and make sure nothing is restricted in there.
Did you go to Settings>Privacy>Facebook and enable Facebook to save photos? Turn on Location Services as well in the Privacy settings.
Saved photos from Facebook are copied to the Camera Roll album in the Photos app.
