Sony HDR-HC1 capture problems.

I'm trying to capture from a Sony HDR-HC1. Can someone give me some setting details. I can get it to connect, but it will not download. I'm using FCP 6. I've never captured HD before, so I'm sure there are settings that I need to change, but I'm at the end of my rope on what to change next. Can anyone help?

cheers,

I'm having similar problems with my own Sony HDR-HD1. I was able to solve one of them using a suggestion on this web page:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/212834?answerId=1060828022#1060828022&messageID=1060828#1069828?messageI D=1060828

However, while I am now able to log files, I am unable to save them to my computer. They keep showing up in my bin with a red line through them, and when I put them in my timeline I get an error message that says "Media Offline". Also, I'm still getting the blank screen any time I hit one of the capture buttons.

Also, my preview isn't working. I just see a placeholder on the viewing screen with "Preview Disabled" printed across it. Is it the settings on my camera or is it my settings in Final Cut Pro?

My camera is set to HDV 1080i.

In Final Cut, I used the set-up DVC PRO HD - 1080i60

That was the closest I could find to the Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 that was suggested in another post, assuming they're not the same set-up, yet according to the guy who posted the message it should work. Only he said he was using FCE HD, probably a different version of Final Cut (?????). It's all so confusing...

Actually, I found HDV - Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 and ended up getting the same blank window as before.

I also found HDV - 1080i60 and HDV - 1080i60 Firewire Basic. In both cases, the log and capture opened up but, again, the preview didn't work. In those cases, the preview screen was completely blank.

So far, DVD PRO HD - 1080i60 has come the closest to functioning, but I still can't get it to capture anything.

That's what I got right now:

HDV - 1080i60

Still having the same issues as with DVD PRO HD. In fact, it's even worse. All the clips I log are registered as having just one single frame. At least with DVD PRO HD, it registers the start and stop time of each clip. In regular HDV, I get nil.

That's what happens when I hit "Log Clip".

I try ANY of the capture buttons, and just get a blank screen with the caption "WAITING FOR DATA FROM DEVICE", and if the camera is playing, it suddenly stops and the whole capture process gets aborted.

So far, of all the Easy Setup settings I tried, DVD PRO HD has worked the best, which is not speaking kindly of any of the other settings.

As Shane has said, DVCPRO HD is not the correct setting for your camera. Your camera does not shoot in that format, you must set FCP to the correct settings, so that it sees the camera source it expects.

Since you have been changing setups with the camera connected, and trying to work with the incorrect setup, my suspicion is that you have corrupted your preferences. The following is what I would do:

Close FCP, and disconnect the camera and turn the camera off.

Go the site-

http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/

and download Preference Manager (free) and use Preference Manager to delete your FCP preferences. Preference manager will allow you to archive your existing FCP preferences if you want.

Shut down your computer completely.

Turn on your camera. Using the menus on your camera, make sure iLink convert is set to off. See page 59 of your manual.

Now rewind your tape in the camera, and once rewound, turn the camera off, plug the iLink (firewire) cable into both the camera and the computer, and turn the camera on to the tape play mode.

Start up the computer.

When the computer is up and running, launch FCP.

Go the the menu Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup and once the panel opens choose HDV 1080i60,

Click Setup.

Now, in FCP, go to the menu File > Log and Capture and see if you have it working now.
