Jan 14, 2013 8:10 PM in response to test99by rkaufmann87,If you can turn a screwdriver you can do it. You didn't indicate exactly which iMac you have but you can find instructional videos on OWC's website under Tech Support. OWC's address is www.macsales.com I'd also highly recommend them as a vendor. I'd also forget about upgrading to 2GB, ML runs much better with 4GB or greater. Your machine may have the ability to be upgraded to 6GB, if it can for the best experience upgrade to 6GB. However forget about 2GB, although ML should work the user experience will be very very slow.

Jan 14, 2013 8:19 PM in response to test99by MichelPM,Do you know the model year and CPU speed of your iMac?
2 GBs of RAM is the barest of minimum RAM to install to run any newer version of OS X.
To download, install and run OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, I would install more RAM.
Most base model iMacs come with only 4 GBs of RAM, but this is, usually, not great, either.
If possible, I would purchase and install at least 8 GBs of RAM.
This should make you Mac and OS X experience much more pleasant.
Installing Is easy and it's not hard. It's the only thing that is user replaceable and upgradeable.

Purchase reliable Mac RAM from online Mac Vendors Crucial memory or OWC ( macsales).
Both sites provide a table or helper app to help you determine the type and spec of RAM module your iMac model uses. Plus, it will also tell you that maximum amount of RAM your model iMac can have installed.
Good Luck!
