I have a 13" MacBook Air (mid 2011) running Lion 10.7.5
I can not pinpoint when (if ever) iChat stopped being able to send files. I've gone through the upgrades and support manuals and all presume it works automatically. All help welcomed.

I have read all the similar conversations, checked ports, closed ports, checked firewalls, unchecked firewalls, and have not yet gotten "Send File" to be anything more than greyed out. I am sure it worked when I purchased the AirBook.

I have no idea if this is helpful but I'm on Mountain Lion and "send file" feature is under "Buddies" in iMessage.

yep. its greyed out. the chat line bounces everything out. i;ve used the preferred port (it was already that) and changed it back as well. it's grey and useless.
